The Best Town on the West Coast Trip

The first time I had even heard about Monterey, California, was in of course, HBO’s notorious Big Little Lies. I was too caught up with all the mommy-drama to notice the locale but when I visited it was heartbreakingly beautiful in a she-doesn’t-know-it way. We Airbnb’d in Salinas – less than 25 minutes away – and drove to Monterey before checking in. The squawks of seagulls and sailing memorabilia greeted us as we pulled in the famed Fisherman’s Wharf. The veteran sailboats bobbing in the calm waves was a stark contrast against the loud popping colors of the restaurants and gift shops at the wharf.
